Noella Roos
|
As a classically trained artist, Noella Roos believes in (and is inspired by) a through understanding of anatomy, composition, arabesques and materials, but takes on the challenge to combine that with contemporary art-culture.
Noella's work displays the mix between emotions, movement and classically inspired understanding of figurative painting. Her work would never have existed without Rembrandt, Kathe Kollwitz or the modern dance choreographer Pina Bausch, the latter of whom were challenging the borders between ?traditional? and ?modern emotional?.
The painting sent in by Noella is a very soft, tender and ?lovely? painting as compared to her expressive drawings (see Noella?s website: www.noellaroos.com). However, emotions can be expressed not only through strong and outwardly expressive behavior. Tenderness in itself is a beautiful and strong emotion, albeit difficult to capture and reflect in a painting. It is precisely this capture and reflection of tenderness in Noella?s painting ?Thuy in Yellow Mist? which makes it special.
The painting ?Thuy in Yellow Mist?, is a reflection from the model Thuy in Hanoi, Vietnam. Thuy wears a traditional Vietnamese dress (Ao Dai) and the entire painting is painted in the misty atmosphere of Hanoi.
